We’re uncertain as to whether it was the summer heat or the warm hearts of the generous individuals who attended the first annual Kickin’ Childhood Hunger who brought the August afternoon temps over 100. But whatever it was HOT any way you slice it! An impressive number of bikes rolled slowly from Forman Harley-Davidson and through the streets of Stillwater as they rumbled their way to the Kicker World Headquarters. There, food trucks, vendors and a gigantic silent and live auction awaited them. From Jesse James, Dave Perewitz and OSU athletes and more to numerous rock and country musicians, autographed items were highlights of the auctions. The biggest prizes were at the live auction including a Kenny Wayne Shepherd guitar, a Side by Side and a customized motorcycle by Klockwerks and Kicker. Thanks to Val Gladden and Lo Cash Cowboys for bringing wonderful tunes to the outdoor stage.
The total amount raised was $43,000. Keep in mind, this amount was every penny given to Kickin’ Childhood Hunger by the riders and auction participants. All other expenses and fees were paid by sponsoring parties. This money will be used to supplement the childhood hunger programs in Stillwater as well as seed money to create new programs in neighboring communities throughout North Central Oklahoma. For application information or sponsorships in the coming year call Lynn Youngblood at 405-377-0045.
Next year’s event will be held on August 22, 2015. There has already been discussion on a few improvements and some new possibilities to make this event another huge success for many years to come. We hope to see you there!
